The New York Jets have sent their star defensive lineman, Leonard Williams, to the New York Giants for a 2020 third-round pick and a 2021 fifth-round pick. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news.
Williams, 25, has 17 sacks in his career with the Jets. He is in the last year of his rookie deal, so the Jets likely knew he wasn’t going to re-sign with the team.
The Giants acquiring Williams comes as a surprise, as they aren’t doing so well this season. He will improve a defense that allows 27.3 points per game. The Giants must be confident that they can re-sign Williams for the long-term.
