Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones will be out for the entire offseason, according to second-year head coach Arthur Smith. This absence is likely due to rehab from an apparent injury Jones suffered at some point during the 2021 season.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Falcons beat writer D. Orlando Ledbetter announced the news via Twitter on Thursday.
Jones was a second round pick (52 overall) out of LSU in the 2016 NFL Draft. He has been a Falcon for his entire seven-year career. In his sophomore season in 2017, Jones was selected to, thus far, his first and only Pro Bowl.
In 2021, Jones played and started in 16 games, grabbing 137 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumbles. That combined tackle number was just one shy of his 2017 career-high. His two sacks were also a second-best mark, as he had 4.5 sacks in 2020. Jones is expected to be back for the 2022-2023 regular season as of now.
