Las Vegas Raiders 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Publish Date: April 17, 2023

The 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27 as the first round picks are announced. The second and third rounds take place on Friday, and the whole thing wraps up with the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday. TGH will be taking a quick look at the first few picks for some teams, and shedding some light on what direction they will go. Here is the Las Vegas Raiders NFL Draft profile for 2023.

Team Needs

All told, the Raiders could use a lot of work, but at the same time aren’t terribly constructed as-is. The main things they should be looking for here are cornerback, edge rusher and offensive line help. Many people want to see them draft a prospect for the future at quarterback, but if they don’t like any of the ones available to them, it may pay off to let Jimmy G hold the reins without competition for another year.

First Round

Pick #7: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky

This is tough, because taking either Will Levis or Anthony Richardson here screams, “risk.” Levis is wildly unprotective of the ball and Richardson is a high-ceiling, low-floor kind of guy. Plus, three quarterbacks will presumably be taken before their pick, meaning they could have one of the best available players in the draft at most positions.

But picking this highly makes teams take huge swings. Picking Levis here, especially after signing Garoppolo, would be considered just that. The team would probably be better served grabbing a top corner or offensive line talent, but it’s hard to see them passing up on an opportunity to take one of the top quarterback prospects at seventh overall.

Second Round

Pick #39: Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State

If the Raiders indeed go with a quarterback first, they’re going to have to really fill needs with urgency in the second and third rounds. That’ll be easier than it sounds because this draft has a bunch of players that fit those needs fluctuating wildly between mock drafts. People like Will McDonald and Cody Mauch are examples of that, and would work for Las Vegas if they fall.

But, playing it safely here, Dawand Jones will most likely be available to them at number 39. The man is absolutely huge, which makes him impossible to shove around. At 6-foot-8 and 374 pounds, he could draw a comparison to Mekhi Becton when he was drafted out of Louisville. Obviously, such size comes with injury concerns and a lack of speed. If he stays on the field, though, not many people are getting past him, which is all a team could ask for.

Third Round

Pick #70: Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, Notre Dame

Again, lots of wildly fluctuating circumstances surrounding the second and third rounds. There could be a lot of talented players at positions of need for the Raiders here, but for the purposes of this exercise, Foskey is a safe pick.

He plays well rushing the pass and in the run game, he can help out on special teams immediately, even if he does need some work to be a starter on defense and he’s a polished blocker. He’ll likely need to really excel in a scheme to be a next-level kind of player, but it’s not really a risk to take Foskey here.
