Cowboys offensive tackle La’el Collins has been suspended five games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. According to early reports, Collins is not being suspended for having a banned substance in his system, but rather for missing mandatory drug tests.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
Collins has been with the Dallas Cowboys since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015. The right tackle has played at least 12 games in four of his five previous seasons. He will now only be able to play 12 games at best after serving this five game suspension.
An anchor of the Cowboys’ offensive line, Collins is owed $10 million in 2022, 2023 and 2024. His five-year, $50 million is indicative of the impact he has on their offensive line, which has been declining as of late. Dallas is also missing Zack Martin on the offensive line and lost Michael Gallup for at least three weeks to a calf strain this week.
