The Cardinals’ worst fears were realized after an MRI confirmed an ACL injury for Kyler Murray. Just three plays into Monday night’s game, Murray was carted off and there was immediate speculation that he had torn his ACL. That diagnosis turned out to be accurate.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
A former first overall selection of the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray won Offensive Rookie of the Year during his first season. He has also been selected to the Pro Bowl twice, in 2020 and 2021. He’s been attached at the hip to head coach Kliff Klingsbury since entering the league. Both received contract extensions in the offseason.
Murray played in 11 games this season. He went 3-8 in those games while throwing for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added 418 yards and three more scores on 67 rushes. The ACL injury will likely keep him out at least half the 2023 season, as well.
