The Minnesota Vikings may have played their last snap with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback. In Sunday’s game against the Packers, Cousins left the field on the cart after a non-contact injury. Further angles suggested he tore his Achilles, and a Monday MRI confirmed it.
PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news directly after it happened on Sunday.
Cousins is a free agent after this season, and his name was among trade rumors when the team was struggling mightily early in the season. Being that his contract includes a no-trade clause, he would’ve had to waive that if a trade he liked arose.
In eight games in 2023, Cousins has 216 completions on 311 attempts (both NFL-highs) for a completion percentage of 69.5. He’s also thrown for 18 touchdowns (another NFL-high) to only five interceptions. His passing yardage total sits at 2,331.
Minnesota may or may not be sellers at the trade deadline, despite their two-game win streak. Justin Jefferson still remains on IR, and now they’re down their four-time Pro Bowl quarterback, who will likely not be with the team next season. A name to watch out for is Danielle Hunter when it comes to the trade block.
