In the wake of Nick Chubb’s severe and season-ending knee injury, the Browns have signed a familiar face to help with the workload. Running back Kareem Hunt has been signed to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
During Monday Night Football, star running back and overall workhorse Nick Chubb suffered a gruesome injury that thrust Jerome Ford into action. He rushed for over 100 yards in the Browns’ close loss, but the depth chart is thin beneath him.
Hunt requested a trade away from the Browns in 2022, which was denied. He played for them throughout the 2022-2023 season, but left afterward. He visited the New Orleans Saints during his free agency period, but did not close a deal. Hunt will now return to the team, maybe even as the lead back.
