Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders have not agreed to a long-term contract as the 4:00pm ET franchise tag deadline passed. Now, Jacobs will have to play on the one-year franchise tag for $10.1 million.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Jacobs had a career year ahead of his contract year, but even still, will be relegated to the franchise tag. His asking price on a longer-term deal was apparently too rich for the Raiders. He can either play the full season, hold out, or choose to play later in the season to preserve his health.
In 2022-2023, Jacobs won the rushing title with 1,653 yards on the ground, with a long of 86 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also added a career high 400 yards through the air, but, strangely, has never recorded a receiving touchdown in the NFL.
