The Indianapolis Colts and running back Jonathan Taylor have agreed to a two-year, $44 million extension worth up to $47 million with $39 million guaranteed, according to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter.
In what has been a historic week for running backs, with Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs swapping the title of highest-paid running back in NFL history, Taylor has also signed a massive extension with the Colts.
Taylor’s extension is now the third-richest contract ever for a running back and keeps him in Indianapolis, where he has spent the past six seasons.
In his NFL career, Taylor has 1,551 carries for 7,598 yards and 69 rushing touchdowns. He also has 187 receptions for 1,469 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. Taylor has struggled with injuries in previous years, but he played in all 17 games for the Colts last season, carrying the ball 323 times for 1,585 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, his highest rushing yard total in a season since 2021.
The Colts have made it a priority to retain their key offensive players this offseason, also re-signing quarterback Daniel Jones and wide receiver Alec Pierce to new deals as well.
