The New York Jets have made an announcement about their Week 1 starter. Given Zach Wilson’s injury, Joe Flacco will start Week 1 against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens. Wilson’s timetable to return is unclear, but could be in Week 4.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
Flacco was the 18th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He played there from 2008 until 2018, winning the Super Bowl with all-time playoff run during the 2011-2012 season. He also won the Super Bowl MVP that year.
After Lamar Jackson supplanted him as the Ravens quarterback, he bounced around the league from year to year, including two stints with the Jets. His second stint started last season, in which he played two games, starting one. Flacco will likely stay the starter until Wilson’s injury is healed around Week 4.
