The New York Jets have placed their new tight end, Ryan Griffin, on injured reserve. He left Week 14’s matchup with the Dolphins early, and would not return.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the ankle injury would end his season.
Griffin signed with the Jets in the 2019 offseason from the Houston Texans. He also signed a three year, $10.8 million extension with New York in November.
In 2019, he has collected 34 receptions for 320 yards and five touchdowns. He had already eclipsed his previous touchdown record through 13 games. Given a couple big games down the stretch, he could possibly have beaten his previous high mark for yards in a season, as well.
New York will have to turn to Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco at the tight end position. They have also called up a lineman to fill the roster spot.
The Jets match up against the number one seed Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football in Week 15.
