The San Francisco 49ers have traded running back Jeff Wilson Jr. to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2023 fifth-round pick. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the deal.
In Miami, Wilson will rejoin his former offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who is now the head coach of the Dolphins.
Wilson has rushed for 468 yards and two touchdowns on the season for the 49ers. He was starting in place of the injured Elijah Mitchell, but then the team traded for Christian McCaffrey, which limited his usage.
For the Dolphins, Wilson will help bolster a rushing attack that hasn’t been too consistent. Their leading rusher is Raheem Mostert, who has 452 yards and one touchdown.
The Dolphins have been active before the trade deadline, as they have added Wilson and edge rusher, Bradley Chubb, into the fold. They currently sit at 5-3 and have won every game starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been able to play and finish.
