As the Saints try to clear more cap room for the 2021 season, they have informed cornerback Janoris Jenkins that he will be released. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news.
Jenkins, 32, is a nine-year veteran who has spent time with the Saints, Giants and Rams in his career. The last season and a half, Jenkins has spent with the Saints. With the team he had four interceptions and 14 passes defended.
While the move will generate over $7.2 million in dead cap space, the Saints save about $7.5 million against the cap with the move. They are still a projected $25.5 million over the salary cap according to Over the Cap.
The man nicknamed “Jackrabbit” has 26 interceptions and 118 passes defended in his career.
