Jalen Hurts has been named the Eagles starter for Week 15. This will be Hurts’ second career start after winning his first against the Saints on Sunday.
The NFL’s Tom Pelissero reported the news via Twitter on Monday afternoon.
Eagles’ $128 million quarterback, Carson Wentz, has not seen the field since midway through their Week 13 contest against the Green Bay Packers. His regression finally necessitated a change at the position, as he has thrown 15 interceptions (the most in the league) to only 16 touchdowns. He has also been sacked more times than any other quarterback, hitting the ground 50 times.
When Hurts was thrown into action against the Packers, he mounted enough of a comeback to put the game’s outcome in question, but not enough to win. He, then, engineered a surprise 24-21 victory against the Saints, knocking them out of the top spot in the NFC playoffs.
Despite their 4-8-1 record, Philadelphia is not out of the playoff hunt yet, as Washington leads the NFC East with a record of only 6-7. While they will need some help to grab the division crown, Hurts may give the Eagles the best chance to win the rest of the games on their schedule.
