The Green Bay Packers have released star cornerback Jaire Alexander according to Ian Rapoport.
Alexander, 28, is a two-time Pro Bowler in his seven-year career. He has played all seven of his seasons with the Packers, where he has posted 287 tackles, 70 passes defended and 12 interceptions.
Last season, Alexander had 16 total tackles, two interceptions and seven passes defended in seven games played. He has played just 14 games over the last two seasons due to injury.
A trade of Alexander was discussed according to Rapoport, but his contract was difficult to move, so the Packers released him instead of restructuring his contract then moving on. Alexander is now an unrestricted free agent.
