Jacksonville Jaguars Release Leonard Fournette

Leonard Fournette

After trying to trade running back Leonard Fournette this offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars released him on Monday morning according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Fournette, 24, was on the trading block as the Jaguars try to rebuild. The Jaguars declined his fifth-year option and the running back was owed $4 million this season.

In his threee seasons with the team, Fournette rushed for 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns. He helped the team reach the AFC Championship Game in 2017.

There aren’t many teams who will be in the market for a running back at this point, so Fournette might have to wait for an injury before being signed.

The Jaguars are expected to go with a running back by committee approach, which means Ryquell Armstead, Chris Thompson and Devin Ozigbo will all see time in the backfield.
