The 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27 as the first round picks are announced. The second and third rounds take place on Friday, and the whole thing wraps up with the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday. TGH will be taking a quick look at the first few picks for some teams, and shedding some light on what direction they will go. Here is the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Draft profile for 2023.
Jacksonville had a very surprising year in 2022, making it to the second round of the NFL playoffs against all odds. Now that they have potential, they need to shore up a few positions to really take that next step. Offensive line and tight end both come to mind. Also, adding depth to their young talent at corner could help as well.
Pick #24: O’Cyrus Torrence, OG, Florida
Maybe an offensive guard isn’t the sexiest first round pick, but it would pay dividends right away. The Jaguars offensive guards aren’t the best in the league, and an upgrade could really help the little things in this offense pop.
At 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, Torrence is huge for the position. Although that size makes him a bit of a mismatch for some faster interior defensive linemen, he can still adjust relatively quickly. He’s incredibly disciplined, receiving zero penalties in 2022, and the upside to a guard like this is a 15-year franchise stalwart.
Pick #56: Derick Hall, EDGE, Auburn
The Jaguars may seem set on the edge for the foreseeable future, Josh Allen is on his fifth-year option and may demand a salary that’s a bit too rich, depending on his output this year. That’s all speculative, and the Jags could very well just wait on another edge rusher until next year, but Derick Hall may be staring them in the face at pick 56.
Hall needs to work on his run-defending commitment, and his pass rush talent is raw. But the size and athleticism he shows makes him a dream second-round pick. Strangely, he has more upside in coverage, but if the Jags can train him as a speed rusher and keep his ball-tracking instincts, this is a high-value kind of pick.
Pick #88: Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami
Stevenson is also ideal value for the pick number here. Sure, he’s not the most polished corner. He definitely needs to get better at tackling and overall awareness. But the size and athleticism is everything a team could want out of a cornerback. He needs to be coached up, yes, but if he’s susceptible to that kind of change then he will be a completely solid NFL corner in short order.
