Colts head coach Frank Reich has been fired by the team after a 3-5-1 start to the 2022 season. This means he will finish his head Colts head coaching tenure with a record of 40-33-1, with two of his 4.5 seasons ending with double-digit wins.
The Colts’ official Twitter account announced that the team “parted ways” with Reich.
Reich was originally a 1985 draft pick out of Maryland. He played in the NFL for 14 seasons, beginning his coaching career in 2006. He began this career with the Colts, holding four different positions over six seasons.
He earned his head coach position with the Colts after leading the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense in the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl win. Reich became known as a “quarterback whisperer,” when he was coordinating an MVP campaign for Carson Wentz before his injury, then Nick Foles over Tom Brady in that championship game.
Wentz would later go on to play for Reich, but to less-than-satisfactory results. He was also given the chance to squeeze one last Super Bowl window out of Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan, but to no avail.
