Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has announced his retirement from the NFL. After 11 years in the league, playing for four teams, McCoy is the latest player to hang up his cleats.
The Buccaneers wished him well via their own Twitter account on Friday.
McCoy began his career in 2010, when he was drafted with the third overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After nine seasons with the team, he was eventually released after the 2018 season. He then bounced around to Carolina, Dallas (as a practice squad player) and finally Las Vegas.
He made the First Team All-Pro in 2013 and the Second Team All-Pro twice, in 2014 and 2016. McCoy also made six Pro Bowls in his career, all in consecutive seasons. His last two seasons in the league were marred by injury, causing him not to play in 2022.
