After retaining his services for less than a full season, the Panthers have fired their head coach. Frank Reich has been fired from the head coach position after a 1-10 start to the 2022-2023 season, and Special Teams coordinator Chris Tabor will become the interim coach.
The Panthers’ official Twitter account released a statement from David Tepper, the owner of the franchise.
In total, Reich has been a head coach for four seasons, plus two seasons where he ended up being fired before Week 18. He began his head coaching career in Indianapolis, where he racked up a coaching record of 40-33-1, making two playoff appearances.
He was brought on to head up the Panthers in January of 2023, specifically to help first overall pick Bryce Young reach his potential. Not only did Reich and Young lose 10 of 11 games, but Young is sitting at a completion percentage of 61.7, with nine touchdowns to eight interceptions. He’s also been sacked 40 times.
