ESPN’s Mina Kimes defended JuJu Smith-Schuster on Twitter on June 27 from fan criticism of his performance during the 2020 season.
Kimes came to the receiver’s defense recently, claiming that his 2020 season wasn’t as bad as many fans thought.
“Positive Steelers take: JuJu Smith-Schuster was much better last year than people gave him credit for.” Kimes tweeted.
Her response comes common consensus from fans that Smith-Schuster had a lackluster season in 2020, especially during the later part of the season. During the 2020 season, Smith-Schuster had 97 catches and a career-high nine touchdowns in 2020. He racked up only 831 receiving yards on 8.6 yards per reception.
However, the main criticism of Smith-Schuster is for “cursing” the Steelers when he filmed viral TikTok videos of him dancing on team logos.
The move drew criticism from Steeler fans and other NFL players alike.
Despite the backlash, Smith-Schuster still plans on returning to the Steelers in 2021, signing a one-year deal worth $8 million.
However, his chances of being Pittsburgh’s no. 1 receiver are fleeting away, with his last shot being challenged by newcomer Najee Harris and rookie Chase Claypool.
In fact many are wondering if this is the start of a new Steeler offense with many of the veteran offensive line retiring, going to another team, or cut from the team.
Seems the loss during the Wildcard game during the Cleveland Browns still echo within the Steeler’s ear. Forcing them to make a whole overhaul on the offense.
The fans will have to see the result when the Steelers play the Dallas Cowboy on August 5.
