The Philadelphia Eagles have traded receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, the teams announced Monday.
The trade comes after months of speculation surrounding Brown’s future with the Eagles and reunites him with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, who coached Brown during his first three seasons in the league with the Tennessee Titans before he was traded to Philadelphia.
The Patriots now have a clear WR1 to partner with Drake Maye, who is coming off a career season after falling just short of a Super Bowl this past February in only his second year as a pro.
Brown, who will largely replace the role of Stefon Diggs, who was released in the offseason, will also be paired with wide receiver Romeo Doubs, whom the Patriots signed in free agency.
Brown had a successful tenure in Philadelphia, earning the two highest single-season receiving yardage totals in Eagles franchise history: 1,496 yards in 2022 and 1,456 yards in 2023.
He was also a crucial piece throughout the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning season in 2024, when he recorded another 1,000-yard season and played an integral role in Super Bowl LIX, catching three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown.
Throughout his final season, Brown openly voiced his frustrations with the offense and his own production during media scrums and on social media.
Brown’s departure from Philadelphia was all but confirmed over the offseason, but by dealing him on June 1, the Eagles can split Brown’s $40 million salary cap charge between 2026 and 2027.
Brown will get a fresh start and a change of scenery with the Patriots, as will the Eagles, who recently drafted USC receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft and also acquired future draft capital in the deal.
