The first Eagles preseason game will be upon us in a matter of days. Philadelphia will take on the New York Jets at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly. First preseason games are always a little messy because players have not been in full game mode since last season. It is reasonable to say that both teams are going to make mistakes on both sides of the ball. However, this game should give a small glimpse as to what this Eagles team will look like. This article will discuss some Eagles players to look out for in their first preseason game.
The Eagles Starters
With this being the first preseason game, it is highly unlikely we will see the starters play a lot. At most, they could play for a series or two. However, these small glimpses of the starters will be interesting to Eagles fans. Jalen Hurts is of the main players that all eyes should be on. There were reports earlier in the offseason that he was struggling. This game should be a chance for him to put the critics at rest with a couple of good drives. Furthermore, this will be the first time we will see A.J. Brown in an Eagles uniform. The star receiver had over 800 yards and five touchdowns last year. Miles Sanders is another player on this offense that people expect big things from this year. Hopefully, he gets a few reps from him in this game.
The same goes with the defense, the big names will not play a lot in this game if at all. Linebacker Hasson Reddick is a player to watch if gets on the field. He was a huge acquisition that the Eagles picked in the Offseason. He will undoubtedly make a huge difference for the Eagles on defense this year. Furthermore, another new face is cornerback James Bradberry. He will more than likely start for the Eagles this year. Bradberry is coming off an impressive 2021 season. He had 47 total tackles, four interceptions, and 17 pass deflections. Hopefully he will get a little action in this game.
Obviously, everyone did not get mentioned, but these are a few Eagles starting players that NFL fans and Eagles fans should look out for.
Rest of the Eagles’ Defense
Another thing that makes this game exciting is that we will a lot of the rookies and other backups get a lot of action in this game. First, we will get into the Eagles’ defensive backups. Nakobe Dean is a rookie that everyone wants to see in NFL action. The Former Georgia star was supposed to be a first-round draft pick, but teams were hesitant to pick him because of an injury. He has a chance to prove himself in this game, that he was indeed a first-round pick. It was also reported that he has been getting a lot of first-team reps at training camp, which is a very good sign for the Eagles’ rookie linebacker. Another name on defense is rookie tackle Jordan Davis, who the Eagles drafted in the first round out of Georgia. He will get his first opportunity to show that he is the real deal in the NFL in an actual game. He had 32 total tackles and two sacks in his final year at Georgia.
Rest of the Eagles’ Offense
There are also some interesting players to watch on the offensive side of the ball. Kenny Gainwell is a player who stuck out during his rookie season last year. He rushed for 291 yards and five touchdowns last year. He is fighting Boston Scott for that second-string spot, who has also been making plays for the Eagle over the last few years. Another player to watch is Jalen Reagor, who really has been a bust thus far in his NFL career. Reagor has not shown that he is that big play receiver that the Eagles thought when they drafted him in the first round a few years back. He has just been very inconsistent. He should get his opportunity to maybe show some improvement and make a big play or two. Another player that could get some reps is QB Carson Strong who has had some injury issues. Strong posted huge numbers at Nevada but can he do the same in the NFL?
Overall, there is a lot of hype surrounding this team and fans are excited to get their first look at them in a few days. These are some Eagles players to0 look out for in the Eagles’ first preseason game.
