The Philadelphia 76ers are going to be on the hunt for a new head coach as their offseason begins. The team has fired head coach Doc Rivers after three seasons with the team. Philly was bounced in the second round of the playoffs for the third year in a row.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
Rivers began his coaching career with the Orlando Magic in 1999, holding the job until 2003. After a year spent as an NBA commentator, he joined the Boston Celtics as their head coach in 2004. He won an NBA Championship while coaching Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo.
After failing to reach the Conference Finals with his next team, the “Lob City” Clippers, he was given the opportunity to join the 76ers in 2020. During his time with the team, he, yet again, never made it past the Conference Finals.
