Shelton, 26, has played five pro seasons with three coming in Cleveland and two in New England. Last season with the Patriots, Shelton had three sacks and two tackles for loss. It was a career year, as Shelton has 4.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in his career.
Detroit released Damon Harrison already this offseason and needed to get more players on the interior of their defensive line, which motivated the move for Shelton.
