The Cleveland Browns and cornerback Denzel Ward have agreed to a two-year, $62.2 million contract extension, making Ward the highest-paid cornerback in the league for the second time in his career.
Ward, who has spent his entire eight-year career with the Browns, has once again become the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback on a per-year basis at $31.1 million.
Ward’s previous contract was a five-year, $100.5 million deal that ran through the 2027 season. By signing him to a new extension before that deal expired, the Browns will likely create greater long-term salary cap flexibility, although the exact financial details aren’t clear yet.
Ward is a five-time Pro Bowler and the former fourth overall pick by the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best and most consistent defensive backs in the league. In 15 games last season, Ward totaled 39 tackles, nine pass breakups and one interception.
