The Dallas Cowboys are placing their franchise tag on running back Tony Pollard. Under the franchise tag for a running back, Pollard will make $10.09 million fully guaranteed. Previously, tight end Dalton Schultz was placed on the franchise tag.
PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Pollard was chosen in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys out of the University of Memphis. He has been with the Cowboys since that draft day. From 2019-2021, Pollard was mainly used as an RB2 behind bruising running back, Ezekiel Elliott.
2022 was his best year, and saw him thrust into the RB1 spotlight. Pollard ran the ball 193 times for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 371 yards and three more scores through the air, as well. Pollard made his first Pro Bowl last season, and leveraged that into being indispensable to Dallas’ offense, necessitating the franchise tag.
