The Dallas Cowboys are likely to release wide receiver Amari Cooper. He is owed $20 million fully guaranteed on March 20, which is five days after the new league year begins. If the Cowboys release him, it will be before that March 20 deadline for Cooper’s contract.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
The reason for the release, apart from the guaranteed money, is likely because Cooper wants a new large contract. He had his second-worst year in terms of yards at only 865, but tied his career-best touchdown mark, with eight.
When he is released, he will be a free agent immediately. Since entering the league in 2015, he has had five 1,000-yard plus seasons and 46 receiving touchdowns. During his time with Dallas and quarterback Dak Prescott, he has over 700 yards more than he did in the same amount of time with the Raiders.
