The Indianapolis Colts have cut their kicker after a poor performance on Sunday. Rodrigo Blakenship has been waived by Indianapolis, who are now trying out free agent kickers to replace him. Missed kicks by Blakenship resulted in a tie with the Houston Texans in Week 1.
Bleacher Report tweeted about the news, which was reported by the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Like most placekickers, Blakenship went undrafted, despite declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft. He was a member of the University of Georgia Bulldogs from the 2015-2020 seasons (due to a redshirt year). He never missed an extra point during his college career.
Since signing with the Colts in 2020, Blakenship has played in 21 regular season games. He has hit 41 out of 53 attempted field goals and 50 out of 53 extra points in the NFL. Before being cut, his field goal percentage stood at 84.3 and his extra point percentage at 94.3.
