The Indianapolis Colts have officially signed their backup quarterback for the 2022-2023 season. They have reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with Nick Foles, who will backup Matt Ryan during his first year in Indianapolis.
The NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Foles is, of course, best known for picking up the mantle of starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, eventually leading them to the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. In 2017-2018, Foles played in seven games in the regular season, starting three of them. In the playoffs, Foles went 3-0, throwing for 971 yards and six touchdowns and just one interception. He went on to win Super Bowl MVP, throwing three touchdowns and grabbing a receiving touchdown with the famed “Philly Special.”
Colts head coach Frank Reich was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator during that Super Bowl run. He and quarterback Carson Wentz were reunited last year in Indianapolis. This experiment failed, as the Colts missed the playoffs. Now, Reich will reunite with the man who replaced him to win the Super Bowl, in Foles.
