Running back Christian McCaffrey has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers. The Panthers will receive a second, third and fourth round pick in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in 2024 in return for one of the best offensive players in the history of the franchise.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday night.
McCaffrey was a top-10 draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Stanford. He has been with the Panthers ever since being drafted, earning a First Team All-Pro selection and a Pro Bowl selection in 2019. So far, in 64 games played, McCaffrey has 3,980 rushing yards and 3,292 receiving yards.
In 2022, he’s played all six games, rushing 85 times for 393 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also added 277 receiving yards on 33 receptions and added another score. The 49ers deplete their draft pick pool even further after they traded three first round picks and a third rounder for the chance to draft Trey Lance before the 2021 NFL Draft.
