The Chicago Bears have put the franchise tag on star wide receiver Allen Robinson, per Adam Schefter.
Robinson is set to earn $18 million next year by being franchised tagged. He has been vocal about his disdain for the franchise tag and his frustration in contract negotiations with Chicago. However, the Bears organization now has more time to try to work out a long-term deal with Robinson over the next year.
Robinson has established himself as one of the best receivers in the league over the past few years. He racked up 98 receptions in 2019 and 102 in 2020 despite poor quarterback play. He also totaled nearly 2400 yards over the two years.
This move is likely one of many by the Bears this offseason as general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy try to assemble a team to put them in immediate contention. Now, the focus switches to finding the right quarterback to throw to Robinson.
