Ahead of the 4:00pm ET 2022 NFL trade deadline, the Chicago Bears have made a surprising move. They have reportedly traded for Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool. The trade compensation has been listed at a 2023 second round pick.
ESPN’s Field Yates reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.
Claypool was taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. He was born in Canada, which earned him the nickname “Mapletron,” since entering the league. He has been a Steeler for his entire career up until today.
In eight games so far this season, Claypool has 32 receptions for 311 yards and one touchdown. He is also sitting at 9.7 yards per reception, which would be the worst of his career if it stands. This trade is interesting because the Bears just traded Roquan Smith, leading fans to think they were continuing a rebuild through the draft.
