Los Angeles has seemingly decided to keep their head coach after their playoff meltdown, but will be searching for a new offensive coordinator. Joe Lombardi has been fired, along with quarterback coach/passing coordinator Shane Day.
The Chargers official Twitter account released the news on Tuesday morning.
Lombardi is the grandson of Vince Lombardi, who won five NFL Championships and two Super Bowls as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. In his coaching career, he has bounced between offense and defense, but has found his stride in offense.
He won his own Super Bowl as the quarterback coach of the Saints, leading Drew Brees to a Super Bowl MVP. His second stint as an offensive coordinator with the Chargers lasted just two seasons. Last time he was let go from an OC position, he returned as a quarterback coach.
