The Carolina Panthers will use the franchise tag on offensive lineman Taylor Moton according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Under the franchise tag, Moton will earn between $13.5 and $14 million.
Moton, 26, was a second round draft pick by the Panthers in 2017 out of Western Michigan. He has started all 16 games at tackle for the team every year starting in 2018. While he hasn’t made Pro Bowls or received a lot of recognition, Moton has been a solid player in Carolina.
The Panthers will hope that Moton’s play will clear holes for running back Christian McCaffrey when he returns from injury. Retaining Moton will be important for the Panthers’ rebuild as they likely search for a new quarterback this offseason.
