Cardinals Expected To Work Out Several Running Backs

Publish Date: October 22, 2019

In Arizona’s 27-21 win over the New York Giants, it was evident that running back David Johnson was not healthy.

Johnson carried the ball once for only two yards on Sunday before being sidelined. The running back has been dealing with an ankle injury for the past week. Although head coach Kliff Kingsbury explained that Johnson did not aggravate that injury, it was backup running back Chase Edmonds that received the workload. Edmonds rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries.

As of now, it seems like Johnson will be taking a break from toting the ball. Not only is Edmonds performing well, but the Cardinals are bringing in multiple running backs to work out Tuesday.

According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, free-agent running backs Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware will be working out for Arizona.

So far this season, Johnson has rushed for 300 yards and two touchdowns on 77 rushes. In addition, the running back has caught 30 passes for 315 yards are three touchdowns. Now, Johnson’s health is seemingly questionable moving forward.

Although there have not been any reports of Johnson missing time, it seems as if the Cardinals are in search of some insurance at the running back position. No signing has been made, but that may change after Tuesday’s workouts.
