After meeting with the team early on Thursday, Cam Newton is expected to sign with the Carolina Panthers according to Jeremy Igo of the Carolina Huddle.
The Panthers haven’t had good quarterback play between P.J. Walker and Sam Darnold. Darnold now has a shoulder injury that will keep him out for a few weeks.
Newton, 32, is a 10-year veteran and former no. 1 overall pick by the Panthers. He spent the first nine years of his career with the team, then played last season for the Patriots. He has been a free agent this season after being cut by the Patriots following the preseason.
In his career, Newton has passed for 31,698 yards, 190 touchdowns and 118 interceptions on 60.1 percent completion. He has also rushed for 5,398 yards and 70 touchdowns in his career.
