The New England Patriots will bring back Cam Newton on a one-year deal worth up to $14 million. Jim McBride of the Boston Globe was the first to report the news.
Newton, 31, signed a one-year deal with the Patriots before last season. He went 7-8 as a starter with 2,657 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns on 65.8 percent completion. On the ground, he totaled 592 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Bringing back Newton will be a failsafe for the Patriots, as they may still be in the quarterback market. The team missed the playoffs in their first year without Tom Brady, but it likely was a result of a lot of opt outs and injuries.
Newton is a former MVP and three-time Pro Bowler. He has 31,698 passing yards, 190 touchdowns and 118 interceptions in his career on 60.1 percent completion. The one time Panther has also accumulated 5,398 rushing yards and 70 touchdowns on the ground in his career.
