Newton, 30, had concerns coming into the season after having shoulder surgery in the offseason. He had a Lifsranc injury earlier this season, which has not healed as expected. After visiting Dr. James Andrews, it was decided that he would not have surgery.
In his place, Kyle Allen has helped get the team to a 5-3 record. They currently sit at second place in the NFC South and are in a good position to make a run at a Wild Card spot if they can’t win the division. Now, Allen will have to lead the team the rest of the way.
