The Carolina Panthers have ruled Cam Newton out for week 4 against the Houston Texans in an effort to make sure he is 100 percent before playing him. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had the scoop early on Monday.
#Panthers now announce that QB Cam Newton is out vs. the #Texans. "We want him at 100 percent when he’s ready, so there’s no exact timetable for his return,” coach Ron Rivera said. https://t.co/fOIoxa61Am

Carolina’s quarterback is suffering from a mid-left foot sprain. Newton also had offseason shoulder surgery and didn’t look like himself in the first two games of the season.
The Panthers will turn to Kyle Allen again in week 4. In his first start of the season, Allen led the Panthers to their first win of the year, over the Arizona Cardinals. He threw for 261 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions on 73.1 percent completion.
