Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers is out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. The reason Cam Akers is listed as “personal reasons.” Head coach Sean McVay explained briefly that Akers is “working through some things.”
PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news via Twitter on Friday.
Akers was drafted out of Florida State in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has been a member of the Rams ever since, winning the Super Bowl with the team in 2022. Early in the 2021-2022 season, he tore his Achilles tendon, which almost kept him out for the entire year, however, he returned for Week 18 and the playoffs.
2022 so far has been disappointing for Akers. In five games, he has rushed for only 151 yards and just one touchdown on 51 carries. He only has 18 yards through the air on two catches and five targets. It is unclear when Akers will return to the field.
