Ridley, 27, was a first-round draft pick of the Falcons in the 2018 NFL Draft. He missed the end of the 2021 season after only playing in five games to focus on his mental health. The wide receiver reportedly bet on games after stepping away from the Falcons last season.
His salary of $11.116 million will not count against the Falcons this season and he will now be under contract through the 2023 season. The earliest he can apply for reinstatement is February 15, 2023.
Through the first four seasons of his career, Ridley hauled in 248 passes for 3,342 yards and 28 touchdowns. In the 2021 season, he had 31 receptions for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
The Falcons will now be thin at wide receiver after trading away Julio Jones before the 2021 season and having Ridley out for the season.
