Buffalo Bills release O.J. Howard, Duke Johnson

As teams finalize their rosters, every team will be forced to make some cuts. The Buffalo Bills have released tight end O.J. Howard and running back Duke Johnson as they trim down their roster to get to 53 players.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

Howard has played in the NFL for five seasons, all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was originally a first round draft choice of the Bucs in the 2017 NFL Draft, and won the Super Bowl with the Bucs in 2021. His deal with the Bills was for one season, but could not crack the roster. He will be released to waivers.

Johnson was selected by Browns in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played four seasons there, followed by two with the Houston Texans, then one in Miami. That led to a one-year deal with the Bills. According to NFL sources, the Bills plan to bring him back to the practice squad if he is not claimed.
