Buccaneers cut WR Tyler Johnson

Publish Date: August 30, 2022

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have cut wide receiver Tyler Johnson. As every team has to trim their roster to 53, the Buccaneers have made one of the most surprising cuts of the day so far, which has featured many releases.

The Athletic’s Greg Auman reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

Johnson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, out of the University of Minnesota. During his rookie year, he and Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs. In college, he was First Team All-Big 12 twice, in 2018 and 2019.

In his two NFL seasons, Johnson has played in 31 games (six starts), caught 48 balls for 528 yards and two total touchdowns. Last year, 2021, was his best so far, as he racked up 360 yards through the air. Now that he has been released to waivers, any team can claim Johnson.

Stay tuned for more breaking NFL content, including preseason moves, contract updates and more news from every team.
