
The Sunday Night Football game between the Buccaneers and Chiefs will be played at Raymond James Stadium on time despite Hurricane Ian hitting the Tampa Bay area. It was unclear whether the game would have to be moved due to damage to the area and stadium itself.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Thursday.
At around 4:00pm on Wednesday, pictures surfaced of Tampa Bay as it was severely receded due to Hurricane Ian’s imminent landfall. It made landfall shortly after, with wind gusts reaching up to 145 miles per hour at maximum.
Being that the highly anticipated matchup is to be played on time and in Tampa Bay, it can be surmised damage to the stadium and surrounding area was manageable. Before it was confirmed, the two teams were discussing taking the game to the Minnesota Vikings’ U.S. Bank Stadium, as the team plays in London on Sunday morning (eastern time).
