Denver Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL.
He left the Broncos’ Week 4 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars with an apparent knee injury. Leaving the game in the fourth quarter, he was originally questionable to return. He did return to the game, although the Jaguars won the contest 26-24. This moved Denver to an 0-4 record.
Chubb, out of North Carolina State, was the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2018 draft. A highly touted prospect, Denver scooped him up to add him to an already stout defense. A standout right away, Chubb had 12 sacks, 60 total tackles and two forced fumbles.
Broncos’ OLB Bradley Chubb actually returned to the game with his knee injury. Now he will have surgery on his torn ACL and miss the season – the biggest loss of Denver’s season.

This year on a vastly under-performing Broncos defense, Chubb has one sack and 21 total tackles. On pace to have similar numbers to last year’s performance, his season has been cut short by the first serious injury of his career.
Head coach Vic Fangio, architect of the excellent 2018 Chicago Bears’ defense, was hired on the strength of that campaign. In fact, before the season the Broncos were voted the second best defense in the NFL. Expected to bring that same kind of turnover and sack-heavy defensive pressure to an already stout unit, things have not gone according to plan for Fangio.
Even with Chubb, the Broncos have lost to underachieving offenses. The Raiders were not high-powered, the Bears won on defensive lapses and luck, the Packers still have not reached half of their potential and the Jaguars are using a backup and second-tier role players.
The Broncos are currently last in the AFC West, and have two of the next three games against divisional opponents. Their next game is October 6 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
