Bengals Punter Kevin Huber Announces Retirement

Publish Date: July 8, 2023

Cincinnati Bengals punter, Kevin Huber announced his retirement on Twitter Friday after 14 seasons with the team. Huber posted a heartfelt message thanking the organization and its fans that can be read below.

Huber was born and raised in Cincinnati. He walked onto the University of Cincinnati football team in 2005. There at UC, Huber was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American in both 2007 and 2008 at the punter position. He also won Big East Special Teams Player of the Year in 2007.

The hometown kid turned into a hometown hero when he was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Since then, Huber started in a total of 216 NFL games with the team, and experienced plenty of highs and plenty of lows in Cincinnati. In his last full season with the Bengals in 2021, Huber acted as a team captain and was the team’s starting punter in the Super Bowl. Huber was replaced with Drue Chrisman midway through last season after his quality of play was noticeably deteriorating at the age of 37.

The Bengals Twitter account posted this farewell video on Huber’s behalf..

Career Achievements

With his 216 career games with Cincinnati, Huber holds the team’s franchise record in games played. He averaged 45.3 yards per punt and 40.2 net yards during his career which both stand as franchise records too. Lastly, Huber appeared in one Pro Bowl all the way back in 2015. Huber undoubtedly will go down as the Bengals best punter to this point in the team’s history. His presence in the locker room will truly be missed.
