Mayfield, 27, is a former no. 1 overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft. He was able to lead the Browns to the playoffs following the 2020 season. After playing through a shoulder injury and struggling in 2021, the Browns decided to acquire Deshaun Watson to play quarterback for next season.
He now joins the Panthers, who have Sam Darnold, who struggled last season, P.J. Walker and rookie Matt Corral in the quarterback room. Mayfield is expected to start.
In his career, Mayfield has a 29-30 record. He has passed for 14,125 yards, 92 touchdowns and 56 interceptions on 61.6 percent completion.
The trade will officially go through once Mayfield passes a physical for the Panthers.
