The Cincinnati Bengals have decided to bench quarterback Andy Dalton after an 0-8 start. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the news.
Cincinnati will start rookie Ryan Finley in Dalton’s place in their next game. Finley was a fourth-round selection by the Bengals in the 2019 NFL Draft. He started his college career at Boise State before transferring to NC State. He passed for 11,147 yards, 63 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in his college career.
Dalton, who turned 32 on Tuesday, has been the starting quarterback for the Bengals since being drafted in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has thrown for 2,252 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions on 60.4 percent completion this season.
The Bengals have a bye this weekend before playing the Baltimore Ravens in week 10. With the team not having won a game, the team is clearly looking toward the future. Dalton will be a free agent in 2021, but can be cut with minimal cap implications for a quarterback.
