The Dallas Cowboys have made a decision on wide receiver Amari Cooper. It was rumored that they may cut or trade the 28-year-old Cooper, due to financial considerations versus his play on the field. They pulled off a trade that will send him to the Cleveland Browns.
ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted about the trade on Saturday afternoon.
The Amari Cooper contract is currently very straightforward for the Browns: a $20M base salary and $20M cap hit in 2022, 2023, 2024.
Cleveland adds a player who at his best can be a difference-making WR1 as they restock their offense this offseason.

The Browns are receiving Cooper and a sixth-round selection in return for sending the Cowboys a fifth-round and a sixth-round draft pick. Cooper can now be Cleveland’s number one receiver after releasing their WR1, Odell Beckham, who was signed by the Los Angeles Rams. Beckham and the Rams would go on to win Super Bowl LVI.
In 2021, Cooper played in 15 games, racking up 865 yards and eight on 68 receptions. The yardage was well short of his previous two full years in Dallas, in which he had over 1,100-plus. The four-time Pro Bowler will carry a $20 million cap hit in each of the next three years on his current contract.
